Poppa Dead Song

Gotta Shiver
in me liver
When that news was delivered
Heart stopped, pop dropped
always was a sinner
Mushrooms, coke, LSD
and godflip for dinner
Haven't Seen him in weeks or years
Last time I saw him he looked and sneered
Last I heard he was on a boat, alone
Chanting "I'm gonna get stoned to the bone!"
His body washed up all covered in slime
Where had he been all this time?
On a voyage to a magic land
He had something with all his plans.

The funeral for a father finished, The Son returned to his fathers dingy small house at the far side of the island he called home, right outside the city The Son was raised in. It was a squalor. A veritable mouse den full to the brim with notebooks and discarded food and drug containers. The Son wondered what the paper monoliths held, and he figured now was as good a time to check as any...

Faded Paper Puzzle
02:36
|
|||
Diggin' for paper memories
Diggin' what poppa left behind
Behind the pictures lie the notes
Of a fantasy land so divine
Faded paper puzzle
Found up in the family tree
Faded paper puzzle
Fills my head with mystery
Fillin the dots between the lines on the pages
Ooh, this is gonna take ages!
But it's plain to see that what I see
Is fantastic enough to dedicate my life
Faded paper puzzle
Fell out of the family tree
Faded paper puzzle
Says head over to the city
--
The Son couldn't believe his eyes. At the bottom of a tall stack of blunt wraps and knapsacks was a picture in a frame. one of the last they took before momma was gone. It was almost 14 years to the day, and now The Son was missing both roots to his branch. Distraught he threw the photo on the ground, crying tears of melancholy for a normal life, he only saw for a moment. When he went to pick up this shattered remnant of his former beloved life, he noticed something. The frame had been hiding a mystery. A map. A map to a far land, and land in our families blood. The Son quickly realized, all the mess, the years long disappearance of his poppa, it was all because of this. He had to know where it lead, so to the city he needed to head.

Concrete mountains
And tinted blue sky surrounds me
Play a symphony of honkers and hollers and trawlers and monopolies
I see big dollar signs
In the eye of the faceless business boy
He said "GIVE ME YOUR MONEY
So I can fill you up with joy"
---
This solicitation was not completely unwanted. The Son, like his father before him, was not uninterested in expanding his already well rounded brain. This slimy looking dealer wanted to sell his experimental new drug, $43 a pop. The Son, without taking an inch of interest what this little tablet would do, paid the requested fee and decided right then to suck it down. After only a few moments of continued normality, he noticed the world was starting to look slightly off. Less color more Brown and Grey. The 'Concrete Mountains' all around him began to disintegrate, and that's when he realized, he was in a different plane. A realm of reality very different from his own. And from this brownish existence that was draped over him appeared a large beast. With a blue face and a demons tail. This creature started offering The Son all his wildest dreams. Fame, fortune his first taste of real love. That's when it hit him, this isn't real. That tablet did more than he thought and now was the time for his journey, not a crazy drugged out trip.
---
I don't want your funny money man
I cannot forget the task at hand
In the city square I climbed a fountain
And in the distance I saw a great big mountain
The map says head there
So I left this city Square

Mountain Song
02:36
|
|||
Through the city
Above the trees
Over the Mountain
Lies my destiny
To simply do what your father never could
Walk straight up
Hang onto the cracks
Praying for dear mothers back
But say oh well
Gotta go over this ridge
Oh, no
Darkness falls
The moon
Hangs stiff in the night
I find myself wondering why...?
Find a spot
Sleep 4 the night
Wake up to the suns
Blinding light
With my head
Set on a goal
Heading off
My feet do ache
But I'm trying my best
To ignore the pain
But hey look
I can see the top
Oh, yes
I'm finally here
But the next step isn't so clear
Step into the ethereal beyond
Da daaa da da da da
da daaa

Ethereal Plane
12:24
|
|||
As The Son stands on the top of the mountain, he ponders the words on the page. "Step into the ethereal beyond" what could that possible mean? The Son didn't know so all he could think was to climb down the other side of this goliath protrusion from the cracked Earth. He knew if it wasn't for the mountain this whole island couldn't possibly float so graciously on the water. He wondered how high up he could be, 200 feet? 1000? a mile? He could never know the answer, but as he pondered and continued down he noticed the snow and fog was changing. The ground under him was no longer packing snow, but almost soft and springy like a mattress or a trampoline. As for the fog, it had become a pale blue mist. And as he walked he realized, his downward descent had become a straight walking flat line in front of him. Could this be the ethereal beyond? he pondered and continued waking, staying on his course. But after walking for what felt like hours with no real change he started questioning himself, Was this real? Is he even alive, or had this vast trek taken another member of his family. As he kept moving and started getting more and more scared, that's when it happened. The ground under him stopped existing all at once and The Son started to fall. Now this journey WOULD take another member of his quickly shrinking family, and sadly, it would be him. But before he could even consider his, what now seemed foolish, death, he plummeted into a deep, and dark, ocean. As he rocketed to the surface all he could think was what now? He looked at the map and finally noticed, the next step. "Time to swim or sail" it said.

Sea Goblin
08:33
|
|||
Splish into the splash into the crashing thrashing waves
Wet and washed out like clean clothes or sandcastles
Holding my breath clawing through algae
Something in the distance bright as eye can see
--
Deep down into the green sea somewhat thick with algae... our hero plummets into a wet abyss of unknown terrors. A large tentacle shoots past his face... then another next to it.... then two more.... now there's tentacles on either side! Shooting up to the surface! The son looks down.
A small, glowing neon green light appears below his feet. It's far away, but he notices a slow growth in size.... it's getting closer.... the light appears to actually be blue... now purple... now back to green.. there's a black hole in the middle....
It's an eyeball and it's getting closer.
An eyeball of rapidly changing colors and patterns that reveal themselves in more detail as they emerge closer.... surrounded by a fleshy mass of big squid body.
The eyeball smacks into the son as the sea goblin shoots to the surface. He rides the eyeball into the sky. As he is launched into the air, he looks below and sees the sea goblin dive back into the depths. He swam.
A blinding bright light was before The Son. Then not. Then it was again. Then not. He finally got closer til he realized, it was a lighthouse. Finally land! The Son was overjoyed to have the waters behind him as he walked on land. Past this light house was a small, but bustling city. But something in this town wasn't quite right...

After arriving to this town, The Son started to notice strange things from the residence. An anthropomorphic frog, Strangely colored people, short squiggly abominations, a man dressed in full World War II regalia. All of these sights were quite odd and overwhelming, which it seems one of the residents notice. "Hi Ho!" the frog croaks at The Son repeatedly. While at first the bizarre nature of this place scared him, The Son eventually grew to like it and it's citizens. As he attempted to talk to them he couldn't understand much from the locals, but when he showed them the map that changed. While he still could not hear the words they were saying, the bowing and warm loving hugs and cries showed this map meant something to these entities. But what? Some age old prophecy, maybe they knew his father. The Son didn't care, they quickly ushered him through their town right to the edge. They waved him forward and gave him a satchel. Apparently they knew where he was going more than him. He checked the map and shuddered. "for the heat water is important, but don't bring too much or it will become useless quick" What could that mean? So The Son Started his hot heeled route.

The heat beat The Son down, it was eating away at his strength. The sun was radiating beams of evil, melting his skin and burning his hair ablaze. Still, he stared back at the sun to assert dominance. As the sky faded to black, a mischievous silhouette of a masked ghoul danced in a taunting manner, then quickly ran off. The sky returned and the heat remained unbearably blistering.
Carrying this satchel wasn't helping. He appreciated the kindness of the residents of the Meme City, but didn't think a parka was really of much use to him. But, considering how much they pushed it on him, he couldn't bring himself to ditch it. And it was a good thing too, cause after only a few miles, he found out why it was there.
In front of The Son was a vast, empty tundra. Frozen over in what looked to be an indiscernibly thick sheet of ice. As The Son Climbed up he realized how cold it was and was at that moment very thankful for the frog and other residents. They may have saved his life, as a matter of fact.
The tundra was cold and empty. While the desert from seconds ago had hatred in its heart, this tundra lacks a heart entirely. It is nothing. All he knew was to keep walking until something happened. And then he saw it, far in the distance. A huge, dense forest with trees as dark as night. He checked the map "Weave through the tree like a basket makers stick, then through a clearing will be the sticky" it said. Sticky, what? He pondered.

Nightmare Tree World
07:52
|
|||
Not to dwell on what lies ahead, The Son started running through the forest. Pitch black even in the light of day, he could not keep straight. His line bent like the branches of the trees around him. Although he was lost, scared, and uncertain, he was not alone. Many unspeakable creatures lurked beyond his non-existent sight... owls, crickets, crows, ghouls, and whatever 4th dimensional beings decide to pop in.
The thornbushes prick and prodded him like a doctors needle, but he was resilient. Never looking back and never thinking ahead. Only dodging and slipping past trees as he heard something behind him. A light growl quickly turning into a roar. Not just a roar but a rushing of footsteps and snapping twigs. The Son took this a sign and ran straight forward, away from the beast about to bite. Scared and feeling so close to the end, he can't give up now. Running and running for what feels like years, he finally sees it. A break in the trees, he dives out and as he does he hears one more bone chilling roar, then soft but firm footsteps going back into the woods. Safety at last.

When the trees cease and the foliage is gone
A place where weeds grow on and on
Expanding fields of purple and blue
Over a 10 foot wall lies
What poppa claimed to be true
Weed whips weed wildly through and through
Into my nose, like so long ago
Memories come back like falling rains
I can only imagine what lies beyond the plain

Purple Mountain Gas
03:55
|
|||
I waded through the dense tall leaves
Whacking away at bushes and trees
I can't believe what I can see
On top of the big mountain
A giant golden face
Tops the temple at this place
made of wood and stone and bones
staring me down as I open the door
A long hall is before me, with torches on the wall
Still lit after millions of years
And smelling of marijuana
The purple plant stands 50 feet High
A forest of sweet purple ganja
Bud so big, smells so good
The scent alone gets me higher
And the wooshing waterfalls pour into rivers
Gets soaked up into trees with fruit and berries
All I can do is grab a bud roll it up and go
Lit it up, smoke it down and yo, yo, yooo
--
As The Son smokes the purple mountain gas, the secret strain his family has kept secret for millennia, he thinks back on his journey. Not only that, he also has a thought for his dead poppa and momma, and his now non-existent family. He was all alone, and now with such a big secret to keep, it was terrifying for the young man. Just then he blew out another large cloud of smoke, but instead of dissipating over time it stayed. Then it formed too distinct shapes, his parents. His smoke poppa walked over to him and put his hand on his shoulder, crying tears of joy. "I wanted to bring you back some" he said, tears streaming down his eyes. "I love you" they all said in unison, as his smoke momma gave him a kiss, they both faded out of existence. This only invigorated The Son, he wanted to keep his family legacy alive forever. And he knew, he always would.
